Show Harveys Attend Reclamation Meet in Colorado Mr. and Mrs. Leo P. Harvey returned Saturday evening after spending six days in Denver, Colorado, Colo-rado, where Mr. Harvey attended meetings of the National Reclamation Reclam-ation Association. Mr. Harvey is Utah's representative on the board of directors comprising the 17 western states. The days were busy ones, Mr. Harvey said, opening with state cauceses early in the morning and meetings continuing throughout the day and evening. The purpose of the convention was to consider the water problems prob-lems of the 17 western states and adopt resolutions to submit to the 1960 session of Congress. The convention passed a resolution resol-ution opposing the 'Wilderness Bill" now before Congress. This bill, if passed and signed by the President, would eliminate any water, mineral or highway development devel-opment in the areas concerned. The convention voted favorably to introduce legislation favoring the secure protection of all existing ex-isting water rights in the western states. Also favored was the use of all federal revenues from power plants at government reclamation reclama-tion projects for the benefit of developing additional projects in the river basin concerned. "This means," said Mr. Harvey, "that when Hoover Dam is paid for in a few years, the future power revenues from the dam would be used for Upper and Lower Colorado Colo-rado River projects." Ail interesting highlight of the trip was a visit to the U.S. Air Force Academy located near Colorado Col-orado Springs at which 1,200 Air Force Cadets are receiving training. train-ing. Mr. Harvey commented on the huge mess hall which covers 1.9 acres of space, excluding the kitchen. The roof is self-supporting and was constructed on the ground and hosted in place later. It is held in place by a series of pillars placed about 12 feet from the eaves of the structure. The falls are entirely of glass, Mr. Harvey said. |
