Show Baffle Creek I Breeze By K. B. . fiSil "And when the sabbath was passed, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James, and Salome. had bought spices that they might come and annoint him." And very early in the morning, of the first day of the week, they came unto the ' sepulchre a t the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, them-selves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre sepul-chre ? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away; for it was very great. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting at the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. af-frighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted; Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, Naz-areth, which was creucified; He is risen; he is not here; behold the place where they laid him" Mark 16-1 to 6. This dramatic incident, enacted on the morning following the first Easter Sunday, is striking because it is so true to human nature. Three of the Christ's most loyal and devoted followers were surprised sur-prised to learn that "he had risen as he said." Many times and on various occasions oc-casions they had heard Jesus say, that after death he would rise again. No doubt they fully believed believ-ed at the time; yet, as the spear of the Roman soldier released the spirit from his tortured body, the fears of doubt and uncertainty assailed them. Since this unforgetable incident, nearly two thousand Easter Sundays Sun-days have come and gone. A large proportion of the earth's population populat-ion profess a belinef in the "Man of Nazareth," and the philosophy of his way of life. The fact that our professed belief be-lief has not resulted in action, is the only reason why peoples and nations are still groveling in the slough of distrust and contention. We believe, but -we do not obey. We profess but we do not make our religion the moving force in our lives. While openly espousing the Christian faith, we are still beset with doubts and fears, as were the women at the sepulchre. In two more days, Easter Sunday Sun-day will dawn again. Will it be just another day of feasting and pleasure seeking? Far better it could be a day of quiet meditation. VA day during which we rededicate ourselves to the sei'vice of the "Man of Galilee," for in his service alone may we enjoy the serene satisfaction that comes from a purposeful life. "I am come," he said "that they migh have life; and that they night have it more abundantly." So long 'till Friday. |
