VETERANS who finished GI bill high school or college training this past spring may go ahead with their training at the next step upward up-ward this fall, even though the July 25 cut-off date has passed. However, they must submit an application ap-plication to VA for a supplemental certificate of eligibility on or before the last date on which the institution institu-tion permits enrollment for full credit during the fall of the 1951-52 school year. They also must be actually ac-tually enrolled in their course by that time. A joint army-air force exercise will be held the first of the year near Watertown, New York, to train men and test equipment under winter win-ter conditions, the department of defense said. The exercise will consist con-sist of a four-week winter training period followed by a short airborne field exercise of from seven to ten days duration involving offensive and defensive operation under simulated simu-lated combat conditions. R.E.S., Rose Hill, Ky. A. A lapsed GI term policy Is one on which premiums have not been paid, but for which the term period covered by the policy has not yet expired. These may be reinstated re-instated or converted. An expired policy is one on which the term period has expired. This means the holder no longer is entitled to GI insurance as a veteran. Q. I have a small GI loan on my home which is located on an unpaved street. My neighbors and I would like to pave the street and pay for it ourselves. We already have approval of the local government. May I use the remainder of my GI guarantee guaran-tee to get a loan for my share of the cost? W.E.K., Saco, Mont. A. Yes, if the project complies with the loan guarantee provisions of the GI bill and VA regulations. Check it with the loan guarantee officer of-ficer in your nearest VA office. Q. May a burial flag, which drapes the casket of a deceased veteran, be given to the veteran's vet-eran's friend after burial? GD., Drake, N. Dak. A. No. The flag Is to go to the next of kin. Q. am considered totally disabled dis-abled for insurance purposes, but receive only 20 per cent for service-connected disability compensation com-pensation from VA. Can my VA award be increased? M.H.H., Dexter, New Mexico. A. Only if the service-connected disability is shown to have increased in severity. A total rating for insurance in-surance purposes may include other oth-er disabilities, not service-connected. |
