Utah's heart fund -was swelled by $21,936 following successful completion ot tne 1953 campaign fund of the Utah Heart Association, Associa-tion, according to the report made by Robert R. Colyar, executive secretary. ' In accordance with the policy of the American Heart Association. 25 per cent of this amount was sent to he American Heart offices who in turn gave research grants to Utah as follows: $6,300 to the University of Utah Department of Pharmacology and Heart. Schoil of Medicine and $5,250 to the University Uni-versity of Utah Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine. From funds which remained in Uah Mr. Colyar reports that the Utah Heart Association awarded research grants in the field of heart disease to Dr. H. H. Hecht, University of Utah School of Medicine, Med-icine, $3,000, and Dr. Stewart C. Harvey, University of Utah School of Medicine, $3,000. This year the American Heart Association will award identical grants to Utah in the same amounts previously listed. This brings a grand total of $33,100 which has been given to heart research re-search projects in Utah during 1952-53 fund drives. Funds sent by the American Heart Association Associa-tion to Utah were more than three times the amount sent by the Utah Heart Association to their national affiliate. First fund drive of the association associa-tion took place in February, 1952 directed by M. Daniel Hammond netting $14,357.90. Able chairman of the '53 drive was Milton L. Weilenmann. Total amount of monies collected in Utah fitm the 1952-53 drives is $39,293.97. |
