"Kickoff" Banquet Held For Utah Football and Basketball Squads University of Utah football and basketball squads faced their campaigns cam-paigns wtih renewed determination determina-tion this -week, following their annual an-nual "kickoff" banquet last week sponsored by Utah Oil Refining Company. At the banquet, Coach Jack Gardner, new Utah basketball mentor, was presented a gold plated plat-ed "good luck" horseshoe by Utoco. Football Coach Jack Curtice was initiated into the "Order of Prog-nosticators Prog-nosticators of the Far East," and presented a "crystall ball" and genuine "lungee" shawl hand woven wo-ven by the people of Afghanistan. Last year Utoco presented Coach Curtice with a conference championship cham-pionship trophy at the beginning of the season, when he predicted a title for his Utes. His team went on to capture the championship. He has predicted another title for Utah this year. Banquet guests viewed the premiere pre-miere of Curtice's new football television tel-evision show, "Football with Curtice," Cur-tice," which will continue on Wednesdays Wed-nesdays at 6:30 p.m. for 13 weeks. E. S. Holt, Utoco president, said that his company would again sponsor play-by-play radio broadcasts broad-casts of all Ute football and bask-l bask-l etball games. |
