Show Dollar Now Worth Only 58 Cents If you have a savings account in cash or bonds it is worth only 58c on the dollar. In May 1941, when the government govern-ment first issued "E" bonds, the value of the dollar was 95c. If the drop keeps on at the present rate, we will be very near the 50c dollar by next May. This is the month the first "E" bonds reach maturity. Persons with fixed incomes, including those on pension, are forced to a much lower living standard. If we reach the 50c dollar their purchasing power will be half what it should be. If congress and the president would get together on a tax and economy program, your dollar would be worth more instead of less next year. |
