Show DON L. SMITH j jc'-i;;::-;; ,. J i Corporal Don L. Smith recently I enjoyed a fifteen day furlough in Pleasant Grove where he visited I mm relatives and friends. He is I stationed at Camp Forrest, Ten-essee, Ten-essee, after having spent two months on meanuevers at Camp Gordon, Georgia. On October 17, 1940, Don enlisted enlist-ed in the Utah National Guard, 222 F. A. Medical Detachment. He received his early training with this organiation, the detachment detach-ment later ;beng designated as a Service battery. With other members mem-bers of the guard he was inducted induc-ted into the U. S. army on March 3 1941. 15 As a Pfc. he was sent to San Luis Obispo, California for training. train-ing. December 1, 1941, the boys were ordered to San Francisco, Port of Embarcation for overseas duty. The outbreak of war altered plans and they they were kept in California for guard duty. March 1942 his Battalion was redesignated as the 204th F. A. 1st Battalion and oreder to Fort Lewis Lew-is Washington. In Nevembcr, 1042 he was advanced to Corporal Technician Tech-nician and on December 15, 10 12, with the rest of the battery he-was he-was transferred to Camp Forrest, Tennessee. Don is the son of George L. and Avis Smith. He was born on Tune 1, 1021 and attended the local schools, graduating from the Pleasant Grove High school in lfsO |
