The fans who were on hand for the opening game between Lindon and the Third ward were treated to a very close game and a mild upset. A scrapy little Lindon aggregation aggre-gation survived a last quarter rally to defeat the slightly favored Third ward team by a score of 18 to 17. After trailing by 3 or 4 point lead cp until the middle of the final quarter, the Third ward after baskets bas-kets by Keetch and Simper, succeeded succee-ded in tying the score at 17 al, when G. Walker converted a foul toss to regain the lead for Lindon. The game ended with each team working to control the ball. G. Walker with 10 points was the leading lead-ing scorer of the game, while Keetch scored 7 points to take high son also showed potential scoring ability. For the losters, the Gillman brothers were again the backbone of the team with D. Gillman garnering garn-ering 9 points. Swenson and Ash did some good work at their guard positions. After holding a small lead throughout the major part of the final game, the First ward lost a very close and thrilling game to the Second Ward who finally forged for-ged ahead in the last 2 minutes of play to win 26-23. It would be difficult dif-ficult to name any standout players play-ers on either team in this contest, con-test, as every man on the floor was playing heads-up ball .However, .Howev-er, Ash, M. Harper, and Loader, in that order did the scoring for the First Ward, while Charles Harper intercepted the ball time and time again to prevent Second Ward setups.. set-ups.. For the Second ward, Hall scored 10 points in addition to turning in a good Guard game to be the game high man, but rece-1 ived a lot of good support from Matthews. D. Walker and Keetch. The second round of play will be held next Wednesday evening, with games at 7, 8, and 9 o'colck. The teams have now al had a chance to get over the stage-Tright they may of had, so the gam?s next w7eek should be even more interesting. Anyone wishing to see boys they know participating) in high-class basket ball should make it a point to attend the M Men games, t honors for the losers. In the second game, the Windsor team who just couldn't connect with their baskets, was outclassed by last years All-Church Seventh place winners as Manila kept the scorers busy chalking up their 40 to 15 victory. The last years champs shewed that they still have their scoring punch together with a little lit-tle tighter defense than last year so appear to be the team to beat in this year's league. Carter and Boyd Sanson tied for top scoring honors with 16 each, while the Warnicks, Monson and Wadley alternated at the guard positions. Bernard Swen- |
