S. families and church auxiliaries members, during times they are not being used for processing foods for the church the board member stated. The sugar for home canning regulations reg-ulations this season make it possible pos-sible to use church or privately owned facilities for community canning projects and consider the products as home-canned and, therefore, point-free, the local chairman said. In outlining the proce-duer to be followed for individuals wishing to use community canning facilities for producing point-free products, the chairman outlined the following: follow-ing: A. Notify the local war price an rationing board so the arrangements arran-gements can be checked to be sure they fall within the regulations. B All members of the group must contribute a share of labor and materials. Vegetables and fruits used must have been grown by a member of the group,. C. Th2 sugar used must be contributed con-tributed by the members of the group from their regular sugar for home canning allotment of 25 pounds, 15 pounds of which they receive by applying individually to the local board. The remaining 10 pounds may be acquired with stamps, to be designated later, from' War Ration Book one. D. The person who normally operates the plant will not do the processing other than acting as sunervisor. The local board chairman point- ed out that the definition of home canning was enlarged to include community projects, in order to encourge maximum production of processed foods. In doing this, the government recognized that large commercial canning facilities will be operating to capacity and that the princpal way to increse our national production is through the maximum use of home and semi-commercial canning facilities, such as those owned by the the church. l |
