Show Bombing Proves of Peacetime Use HELENA, MONT. Bombing techniques which wreaked havoc on enemy cities and military installations installa-tions during the war also have proved effective in saving valuable timberlands of the northwest hrough control of forest fires from the air involving spraying water from planes. tii -a c.al test conducted jointly joint-ly by the forest service and army air forces, a B-29 and two P-47s successfully suc-cessfully dropped seven water bombs on a fire deliberately set near Lolo Hot Springs in Lolo national na-tional forest. After the water bombs had been dropped with accuracy near one set blaze, splashing water over the burning area and practically bringing bring-ing the fire under Control, two forest service jumpers parachuted out of a forest service plane to do the mop-up work. Their tools and a hot lunch also were dropped from the plane. |
