Show Car Crash Results In The Loss of An Arm j Vern Eoley, S3, met with an accident acci-dent Sunday morning, at 2:30 ! c'cIjck, on the faoate Highway bo-I bo-I t'.vecn American Fork and Pleasant, Grove, which resulted in the loss ci his lctL arm. He and his wile had attended a dance Saturday night and later stopped at one of the local refreshment places for something some-thing to eat. Wnile waiting Mr. ! Boley, accompanied by Alan Bloom- quist, son of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Bloomquist, left in tiie car for a chart ride to Pleasant Grove. It was , on the return trip that the accident acci-dent oecured. j They reached a point on the State highway near where the road cuts off to Geneva resort, when they collided with a truck driven by John Harmon of Bountiful. With Harmon with his brother, K. H. Harmon, also of Bountiful. The truck was en-route en-route to Arizona with a load of eggs. Boley was driving with his left arm protruding from the car, the forearm resting on the door with the window lowered. In the crash the arm was literally torn off, above the elbow, the lower portion being a mass of mangled flesh and shattered bone. Harmon immediately stopped and gave assistance. He rushed the injured in-jured man and Bloomquist to the office of Dr. J. F. Noyes and from here Mi'. Boley was taken to the Lehi hospital. Little hope was given by the attending physicians that the arm could be saved, and it was found necessary later Sunday morning morn-ing to amputate it. Dr. Kenneth Ncyes, of this city, performed the operation. Mr. Boley is reported to be in considerable con-siderable pain but is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. circum-stances. Aside from the arm injury he escaped without a scratch and Bloomquist was uninjured, in spite of the iact that the glass on the left side of the car was shattered. Boley's machine was badly damaged, dam-aged, the wheels, fender and running run-ning board on the left side bearing the brunt of the impact. The right front tire of the truck was punctured punctur-ed and the side of the truck bed somewhat damaged. The driver and his brother were unhurt. The accident was investigated by Sheriff Walter Durrant and by Night Marshal Jed Mercer of this city. o |
