Show UTAH COUNTY CLEANUP PLAN IS LAUNCHED Civic, government and church organizations, or-ganizations, womens' clubs and other groups interested in home beautifi-cation beautifi-cation and civic improvement have adopted a county landscape improvement im-provement program. The program is in harmony with a program launched by a Central State Committee Com-mittee and Governor Blood's 1947 World's Fair Committee. As many tourists will be expected in the State I to help celebrate Utah's centennial, a cencerted effort is being made to beautify highways and homes in preparation for the event. Representatives of the various organizations or-ganizations who met Monday, March 20, at the City and County building, adopted a program in harmony with the major aims of the State Committee. Com-mittee. Keith Nielsen is heading this program temporarily in American Ameri-can Fork. The long-time" goals are : (1) To remove all unsightly views from state highways, county highways and city streets old, unused buildings build-ings and barns, automobile junk collections col-lections dead trees, weeds fallen down fences farm machinery; by repair, replacement, removal or screen.- (2) To eliminate unsightly surroundings in communities. (3) To plant lawns, shrubs, vines and trees to improve landscapes. (4) To paint all buildings. The program and its organization was recommended by a central county committee. This committee were appointed to work out such details de-tails at a similar previous county-wide county-wide meeting held on March 13th. George Smeath of the BYU landscape land-scape department was elected chairman. chair-man. Other members of the central committee are Mrs. Alex Hedquist, Mrs. Harvey King, Mrs. H. Grant Ivins, Frank J. Earl, J. Vaur Waters and Owen Ash. The local chairmen are to select assistants, call a meeting of representatives repre-sentatives of the various civic and church groups and with them decide on a coordinated plan of action for their community including the sponsoring spon-soring of a local campaign, dates of which should be set before May 6. o |
