Show Electrical Storm Rouses Community Suddenly awakened from sound slumber, the sleeping population of American Fork witnessed early Wednesday Wed-nesday morning a severe electrical storm. With sleep denied because of the crashing thunder which seemed to center right over American Ameri-can Fork, the lightning flashes seemed to play tag all over the sky and the illumination for a time was too constant to be restful. The fury of the storm during which the rain descended in sheets, seemed to have spent itself, and many had again dropped off to sleep iwhen a thunder clap roared unexpectedly unex-pectedly and as one wag facetiously remarked, American 'orK was on n feet again. The loudest crash occurred occur-red at 3:28, when a bolt struck the sub station of the Utah. Power & Light Co. and burned up a primary coil of the street lights transformer. Damage to the amount of $200.00 was done, reports Orin Ashton. The city was plunged in darkness and the rain fell heavily for a short time. No other damage was reported. A short in the wires operating op-erating the flash signal near the east state highway turn kept the signal going continuously during the storm. All in all, the storm was one of the most severe in years and followed two days of uncomparably high temperature, of which the cooling breezes of the latter part of the week have been a welcome contrast. |
