Show Road Show Honors Go To Highland Many people of the Alpine stake have awaited with interest the announcement of the winners of the annual M. I. A. stake road-show which was given on Monday, night in Alpine and Highland and on Wednesday Wed-nesday night in the four wards of this city. The final counting of the ballots brought an unbelievably close result, Highland ward winning over the American Fork First ward by just one point. The winning act-presented by the Highland ward was received with much favor in the stake reflecting a great deal of effort on the part of the smallest ward in the stake. The act was "Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me," depicting the Hawaiian queen, who having heard the gospel preached by the Latter Day Saint missionaries, defied the volcanic god Pele' and showed her people the error of their superstitions. supersti-tions. The setting, music and dancing danc-ing were in keeping with the Hawaiian Hawa-iian theme. The First ward act was named "Secrets" and put over the message of the triumph of Truth over gossip and scandal. The stage settings and costumes were cleverly and effectively effec-tively worked out in green and gold, the M. I. A. colors. The Third ward, which took third place in the show, had as their presentation a musical dramatization dramatiza-tion with a background of memories. The vocal work in this act appealed to many as well as the sentiment portrayed. There were many good points in each of the other three acts are to be commended. The Alpine ward's play "The Heathen" was a splendid act, being entirely dramatic. The Fourth ward's act "Spirit of the M. I. A." portrayed the service that may be rendered by members of the M. I. A in their homes, church, community communi-ty and nation and the Second ward's act was centered around the M. L A. song "The Challenge" with an effective lighting climax. These three, each of such a different type, found favor with many throughout the stake. The judging was done by the people peo-ple who witnessed the acts as presented pre-sented in the six wards. Each ballot bal-lot had at the bottom a blank space for first, second and third choice of the plays. In tallying the points the stake board members who counted count-ed the points gave to each first place choice three points, each second sec-ond place, two points, and to each third choice one point. The final check showed Highland having received 1183 points, the First ward 1182 points and the Third ward 823 points. Highland received 207 first places, 220 second places and 122 third places. The First ward received 263 first places, 130 second places and 133 third places. The Third ward received 127 first places, 137 second places and 164 third places. The stake board offered a prize of one dozen M. I. A. song books to the ward winning first place and this prize will be presented to Highland High-land in the near future. A large majority of the people who saw the road show acts will feel to congratulate congratu-late Highland upon their success, considering the handicap of such a small membership and the distance a number of them live from their meeting house making rehearsals difficult, etc. Each ward provided entertainment j between acts as well. The shows were presented with little delays in each of the wards and many have been heard to say the productions j were equal and in several instances j better than those of other years. |
