Show Prominent Church and Civic Worker Dies Suddenly Leo Thomas Shelley, 75, lifelong resident of American Fork, and one of the city's most respected citizens died at his home early Wed. of causes caus-es incident to age. Born December 26, 1861, a son of James and Mary Lee Shelley, he has been prominent in church and civic affairs since a young man. For 14 years he acted as secretary in the Sunday School before filling a mission to the Southern States. Since that time he has worked in the superintendency of the Sunday School in the Fourth ward. He worked eight years as ward clerk, eight years as a counselor to Bishop Earl Greenwood and ward treasurer for a number of years. He was a member of the stake high priests and high council at the time of his death. Mr. Shelley was appointed secretary secre-tary of the American Fork Irrigation Irriga-tion company when it was organized, 18 years ago, which position he still held. He also acted as city recorder for 14 years. February 8, 1893, Mr. Shelley married mar-ried Melissa King in the Manti temple. tem-ple. He is survived by his widow and five sons and daughters: Allen K Shelley, Fort Hall, Idaho; Wayne L. Shelley, Bingham; James A. Shelley Shel-ley American Fork; Mrs. Jean Strong, Magna ; Mrs. Mary Coomer, Logan, and eight grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. M. A. Wilde of American Fork. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p. m. in the Alpine Stake Tabernacle. Friends may call at the home Sunday prior to the services. |
