Show Pleasant Grove High School News i An Open Forum Society has been organized at the high school, the purpose of which is to stimulate interest in-terest in public speaking and debating. debat-ing. Mr. Lyean Johnson and Miss Myrtle Henderson are advisors; Gordon Gor-don Wright, president; Marilyn Richards, vice president; Leah Phillips, Phil-lips, secretary; with 18 members which include, Floyd Backus, Mary Burns, Austin Dittmore, Helen Green, Ina Clair Hayes, Claire Nell Hilton, Howard Lowe, Lola Jensen, Katheryn Kirk, Reed Matthews, Ra-moria Ra-moria and Winona Monson, Frank Newman, Fern Hobinson and Ed Smith. Preparations are going forward for the Junior Prom which will be held in the high school gym Thursday Thurs-day evening, December 23rd. The decorative scheme will be "Northern ; Lights". E. R. West, Myrtle Hender- ! son and Earl Giles are advisors, and : the general committee consists of John Peterson, music; Virgil Cook, ' advertising; and Bessie Downs decoration deco-ration chairman. This afternoon at 3 p. m. the clothing classes of the Pleasant Grove High School will present a "Style Revue" with the mothers of the girls as special invited guests. With a background of brightly trimmed trim-med Christmas trees and other Christmas decorations, over seventy-five seventy-five girls from the eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh grades, will show their dresses and other articles that have been made during the first half of the school year. Smart little cotton frocks, along with silk and wool sport dresses will be shown, after which light refreshments, refresh-ments, to carry out the Christmas spirit, will be served. Ellen Walker, clothing teacher in the high school is in charge of arrangements, ar-rangements, with the following committee com-mittee Anna Marie Walker and Ina Clair Hayes representing the eleventh elev-enth grade; Mary Burns, tenth grade; Jewel Paul, ninth grade, and Ellen Richins the eighth grade. Any women who are interested in this phase of school w:ork are invited to attend this style revue. The Misses Viola West and Myrtle Henderson attended a speech convention con-vention meeting at the B. Y. U. Monday night. Dr. Alonzo Morley delivered an address on methods of improving speech defects in children. Tuesday night - Principal Karl Banks, Mr. Lyean Johnson and Mr. Harry' R-ichards attended a meeting at the B. Y. U. , the purpose of which was to revise the state course of study in the science department. Friday evening the local high school basketball team met the Pay-j Pay-j son boys. Our school boys won two out of the three games played. A return game will be played at Eing-ham Eing-ham December 21st. |
