Show o NEW NAME SHINES IN "GREEN GABLES" A new favorite and a new name come to the screen in "Anne of Green Gables," a coming attraction at the Cameo Theatre, Sunday, Mon-i Mon-i day and Tuesday, January 20, 21 and 22. Anne Shirley is the heroine' in the film, played by Anne Shirley. The name was adopted by the actress ac-tress when she won the role that hundreds of other Hollywood girls had sought. Formerly known as Dawn OTJay, the new Anne Shirley is sixteen years old. Despite her youth she is a screen veteran, having made her debut before the cameras at the age of three. She has since supported herself and her mother from' her motion picture earnings. "Anne of Green Gables," as millions mil-lions of readers will recall, is the story of an orphan girl who is adopted by a middle-aged farm couple- It depicts the struggle of the child in winning ''the hearts of the disappointed man and woman who had expected the orphanage to send them a boy, and it traces the romance rom-ance which ensues as the girl blossoms blos-soms into young womanhood. First published in 1908, the novel, by L. M. Montgomery, has won recognition recogni-tion as a classic of fiction-Tom fiction-Tom Brown plays the leading ' male role opposite Miss Shirley and I others in the cast include Helen ; Westley, O. P. Heggie, Sara Haden and Gertrude Messinger. George I Nicholls, Jr., directed, and Kenneth ! McGowan, who brought "Little ; Women" to the screen produced. |
