Show Old Folks of Community Royally Entertained Wed. It is doubtful if there ever was an Old Folks gathering held here which brought more joy to those feted than that held Wednesday- i The committees hi charge headed by Roy Greenwood and Mrs- Alma Earl, did themselves proud in the manner in which the day's social was earned out, and judging from the general spirit of friendship which prevailed and the joy which shone from the countenances of the aged, their efforts were appreciated by all. All gathered at the tabernacle by noon and at 12:30 p. m. were seated at long tables fairly groaning with their burdens of good things to eat-One eat-One has but to glance over the menu to know that even the most fastidious appetite was appeased. The menu included chicken, dress- ing, creamed potatoes, gravy, roast ham, parsnips, carrots, celery, pickles, pick-les, cheese, plum pudding, mince pie and oranges. The tables were decorated with vases of pink, white and red carnations and ferns- Over three hundred were served at the tables and sixty tray dinners were taken out' to those unable to be present- During the dinner hour music was furnished by Mrs- Mary Humphries. Milton Brown and How- ard Nelson. The afternoon program wras very well attended and enjoyed by everyone. every-one. One of the visitors of the day, Judge Daniel Harrington, of S'alt Lake, formerly of this city, spoke in a reminiscent manner concerning former Old Folks gatherings and mentioned many of his old friends who were active i nsimilar affairs here years ago. Chairman Mrs. Evar Strasburg of Highland; Chairman and Mrs Ellis Peterson of Lehi and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Davis of Lehi were also present-Following present-Following the program all again adjourned to the amusement hall, where several dance numbers were given followed by general dancing-During dancing-During this time, also, carnations were presented to everyone above eighty and to all above seventy present. pres-ent. In the evening the annual Old Folks committee dance was held in the tabernacle, with all above sixty as guests of honor. Chairman Roy Greenwood and he i members of the program committee j wish to extend their appreciation to all who assisted in the programs. Mrs. Earl and her corps of cooks appreciate greatly also those net regularly on the committee who gave assistance in preparing the dinner. Special guests of the day included besides all those above sixty, widows and widowers, the members of the stake presidency and the bishonrics and their wives. A number of familiar fa-miliar faces of people who formerly resided here and who came back to attend the party were noted among those present.' . . r I |
