Show Cavemen Gridders Take Measure Of Visiting Eleven The American Fork gridders pounded out a 13-0 victory over Lincoln high in an interesting and hard-fought game here Wednesday. The Forkers made an 80-yard drive to score their first touchdown midway in the first quarter. Dur-rant Dur-rant started the drive by going off-tackle off-tackle for a good gain, followed by three well-executed end runs by Mc-Tague Mc-Tague for 23, 24 and 15 yards. Holmstead went the final 10 yards to the goal line on a smash over center. The second and last score for the locals was made in the second period per-iod after McTague intercepted a Lincoln pass on his own 25-yard line. McTague returned the ball to midfield, from where Durrant made seven yards on a buck; McTague picked up 15 on a reverse, and Ellison Elli-son hit the other end for 20 yards. A lateral pass from Durrant to McTague Mc-Tague accounted for the score. Lincoln made no threat in the first half, but came back strong to outplay the victors in the second half. In the third period the Lincoln Lin-coln eleven went from their own 30-yard line to the American Fork 11-yard marker on five end runs, but Smith fumbled and Hansen recovered re-covered for the Forkers on the one-yard one-yard line to stop the scoring threat. Three times in the second half Lincoln fumbled, and all three times the victors recovered, halting any hopes the visitors had for a score. |
