The local lady won a first premium at the Utah County Fair this year, and has received word from the National Crochet Bureau in New York, contest headquarters, that she is now ready for the final test. This is the third year in which the National Crochet Contest has been held. It is described as an effort ef-fort to improve the quality of contemporary con-temporary American crochet, and is sponsored by well-known civic leaders lead-ers and some 1600 Pairs throughout the country. More than 300,000 women competed in the Contest preliminaries through these Fairs during the year. LOCAL WOMAN COMPETES FOR NATIONAL CROCHETING HONORS Mrs. W. C. Hansen has been notified no-tified of her eligibility to compete for the title of National Crochet Champion in the Third National Crochet Contest this fall. Judging will be held in New York City, where the local woman's crochet, a large banquet cloth, , will vie with over three thousand prize-winning pieces for the nation's crocheting honors. $1300 in cash prizes will be divided divid-ed among the champion and the forty "ranking crocheters" who will also be named in the Contest. In addition to her cash awards, the national na-tional winner will receive a free trip to New York City and a three-day three-day visit there, where she will be widely entertained.
