Show CCC Enrollees Complete Course In First Aid Forty-four members of this company com-pany were graduated from the Standard Stan-dard First Aid class taught in the camp by Dr. Ashton D. McKenney, camp surgeon, during the past two and one-half months. All of these men have satisfactorily completed the requirements of twenty hours of instruction in the treatment of the wounded and sick, and will be awarded cards from the American Red Cross stating their qualifications qualifica-tions in the field. Mr. Theodore Wirak, subaltern, has been ordered to Provo, where he will attend the mess management school which is being conducted there by the district headquarters. He will return to this camp next Sunday. Captain Alva C. Carpenter inspected in-spected the camp and audited the books this week on his bi-monthly visit to tre camp. He reported the camp to be in fine shape and improving im-proving all the time. Mr. Hoopes, camp superintendent, and the foremen employed by the Bureau of Reclamation have enroll-1 ed in the counseling and guidance class taught at Provo by Professor Lloyd of Brigham Young university in order that they might be more qualified to advise the members of the camp. Enthusiasm is running high in the camp these days as a very interesting interest-ing basketball tournament gets under un-der way. With four teams, one from each barrack, matched with each other, a series of games will be played in the Pleasant Grove high school gymnasium to determine the best squad. So far, one set of two games has been played, showing the teams to be quite evenly matched. One point was the deciding factor of victory in each game. Tonight two more games are on docket and everyone is looking look-ing forward to seeing some very interesting in-teresting basketball. In this camp, the athletic contests have proven to be quite a stimulus to the Educational Program as the men are required to take part in the class work if they are to play in the tournament. o |
