Show Old Confederate Flag Presented to Museum TUB famous Confederate battle flag of the First Virginia regiment, regi-ment, made by the women of Richmond Rich-mond from their silk dresses, and which led the noted command from Eull Run to Gettysburg, came to 1 the Confederate museum and now1 rests with other southern trophies. The museum Is In the old White House of the Confederacy. The blood-stained and battle-torn banner saw Its last service In Tick-ett's Tick-ett's charge at Gettysburg, where the southern troops swept up the slopes of Cemetery hill to vlrtunl annihilation. Preserved by the late i Col. Charles T. Loehr, historian and custodian of the First Virginia, the flag was presented to the museum by bis children, William A. Loehr, Charles E. Loehr, Mrs. Oscitr L, Kent and Mrs. I'.crnard L. Dickinson. Dickin-son. Colonel Loehr, as historian, described de-scribed the f.'tte of the flag on tha day of Pitchctt's charge In these words: "The color guard Is dead and the color sergeant has Inst his arm; our colonel lies dying on the field the regiment lost 120 men out of about 100 who went Into that charge." |
