Show Power shiit off after cold snaps utility pole schools had their power back by 9 a.m. Others received power at various vari-ous times during the day with the final hookups taking place at about 2:30 p.m. He said that some of the men reported temperatures of about -20 at the time the outage occurred. Miller reported that they even had a few equipment problems because of the cold. Miller also reported that their customers were really good about the outage even though it couldn't have happened at a worse time as far as the cold was concerned. Portions of Pleasant Grove were without electrical power for several hourson Monday after a power pole broke because of the intense cold. Ed Miller, area supervisor for Utah Power and Light, said that the pole near 1500 E. 200 South in Pleasant Grove snapped because of conductor lines constricting so much because of the extremely cold temperatures that it snapped right in two at about 6:30 a.m. The outage occurred during the coldest weather the area has had in several years. Temperatures were well below zero when the outage occurred. Miller said that this was a very unusual situation brought on by the cold weather. He said that that particular pole was a five-way junction pole with wires going off in five different directions so that it effected about 500 homes. UP&L crews had to rebuild the entire pole and lines. Miller said that they had to use a backhoe to remove the broken pole and the ground was frozen really hard which made the job difficult.
