Show Sanders Construction wins upper division title in Pleasant Grove men's fastpitch softball tourney Sanders Construction successfully defended their title this past week with a hard fought 5-4 victory over Tri-L Construction in the cham-' pionship game. Craig Carter scored the winning run on Jeff Wolfe's groundout in the top of the eighth inning. Sanders scored first in the game on a solo home run by Jeff Wolfe leading off the second inning. Rick Newman doubled the score with a solo homer in the third inning. Jeff Wolfe and John Beck scored in the top half of the fourth inning to give Sanders a 4-0 lead. Dave Lamoreaux made a dpnt in the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth for Tri-L. Tri-L closed the gap to 4-3 in the fifth inning as Steve Warner and Carl Ford, running for Craig Giles, scored on a couple of errors by Sanders. Dave Lamoreaux doubled in the sixth inning and scored on Waymon Hamilton's single to tie the score in the sixth inning. Neither team was able to score in the seventh, forcing the extra inning. This concluded the Men's Fast-pitch Fast-pitch League as the teams now move on to state, regional and national tournaments. The State Class "B" Tournament will begin Thursday evening and continue through the weekend at the Shannon Field Softball Complex, near the rodeo grounds. The Pleasant Grove City Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank all those who have participated in the softball program this year and made it the success that it was: Dwayne Colledge and Lloyd Evans for the umpiring crews; Joanne Hamann, Cliff and Steve Hales for the score keeping; and the many sponsors, coaches and players who made the year an exciting one. |
