Masterlube and Coca-Col- a out of Ogden will provide the top com-petition with the Renegades and PetersonAVanless out of Salt Lake City finishing in a close second for excellence. Fifteen teams will begin play Thursday at 6 p.m., with games being played during Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday will see play beginning at 8:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day with the Championship game scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday. Those who really enjoy excellent Fast-Pitc- h Softball will find some very exciting, well played games the next several nights. HOpnUast j Loser I"""1 (18 1 User 11 Sanders Construction wins upper division title in Pleasant Grove men's fastpitch softball tourney Sanders Construction successfully defended their title this past week with a hard fought 4 victory over Tri-- L Construction in the cham-- ' pionship game. Craig Carter scored the winning run on Jeff Wolfe's groundout in the top of the eighth inning. Sanders scored first in the game on a solo home run by Jeff Wolfe leading off the second inning. Rick Newman doubled the score with a solo homer in the third inning. Jeff Wolfe and John Beck scored in the top half of the fourth inning to give Sanders a 0 lead. Dave Lamoreaux made a dpnt in the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth for Tri-L- . Tri-- L closed the gap to 3 in the fifth inning as Steve Warner and Carl Ford, running for Craig Giles, scored on a couple of errors by Sanders. Dave Lamoreaux doubled in the sixth inning and scored on Waymon Hamilton's single to tie the score in the sixth inning. Neither team was able to score in the seventh, forcing the extra inning. This concluded the Men's Fast-pitc- h League as the teams now move on to state, regional and national tournaments. The State Class "B" Tournament will begin Thursday evening and continue through the weekend at the Shannon Field Softball Complex, near the rodeo grounds. The Pleasant Grove City Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank all those who have participated in the softball program this year and made it the success that it was: Dwayne Colledge and Lloyd Evans for the umpiring crews; Joanne Hamann, Cliff and Steve Hales for the score keeping; and the many sponsors, coaches and players who made the year an exciting one. Rain delays final game of "C" tourney begin tonight at 7:30 at Shannon Field. As the game was suspended the game will pick up exactly where it was called. Other local teams in the tour-nament represented the league very well in the state, upsetting some teams and giving others more than they expected. Congratulations to Cook's and all the other local teams for their good showing in the state tournament this year. :1 The Men's State Class "C" Fastpitch Softball Tournament was held in Pleasant Grove over the weekend, but Mother Nature decided to hold off the outcome for a few days. Cook's Wallbangers from the Pleasant Grove league, were playing in the championship game when the rains came, postponing the outcome until tonight. Cook's cruised through most of the tournament, defeating Reed Stallings Construction from Salt Lake 13-- They then shut out a strong Hill Field team Rio Grande Railroad was their next victim, 15-- which sent them into the semi-final- s against R & M Transportation. Cook's prevailed in that game, which moved them into the championship game. R & M moved through the loser's bracket and once again the two teams met. This time the outcome was dif-ferent as R & M jumped out to a 0 first inning lead. Cook's was able to tie the game at but R & M moved out ahead again to win This set up a one game final as both teams had one loss in the double elimination tournament. Cook's jumped out quickly, scoring in the first inning. R & M came back to take a 2 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning when the rains came and the game was suspended.
