Payson came ready to win, and beat P.G. in two games, 9-15 and 6-15, in spite of Valynn Storey's great serving in both games. In their Thursday match against Timpview, however P.G. showed great promise. Their scores in that match was 13-15, 15-7 15-7 and 15-8. As the varsity played the last two games in the first round of the season in Region 8 competition, they battled past a fired up Payson squad for a victory on Tuesday night. Then, on Thursday, they were over powered by the T-Birds from Timpview. Against the Payson Lions, the Vikes played three hard-fought games, with the Lions winning game one, 12-15. In the second game the Vikings took the lead, largely due to serving of Lori Curtis, Cur-tis, who scored nine points for P.G. Jenny Wells lead the Vikings in game three with 8 points. Tracie Williamson had a great game with 9 blocks and 13 kills for P.G., while Vikki Allred added 7 kills. The T-Birds took command early in the second game with a 10-1 10-1 lead. Allred and Curtis got P.G. moving, as the Vikinggs narrowed the gap, but in spite of several excellent saves, and some sparkling spar-kling individual efforts, the Vikes were unable to get the points.
