Show District OKs classified contract The Alpine School District Board of Education has unanimously unani-mously approved a negotiated agreement with its classified employees. em-ployees. Board members formally approved ap-proved the agreement during their monthly public input session, which was held at Manila Elementary Elemen-tary School in Pleasant Grove. Under the new contract, classified classi-fied em ployees do not receive either a cost of living raise or an across-the-board salary increase, according accord-ing to Mrs. Donna Sandstrom, Classified Employees Association president. The board did agree, however, to provide salary increases, which come through step changes for meritorious service, for the employees. em-ployees. In addition, the board agreed to provide for the increased cost re quired to maintain all insurance at last year's level. According to Mrs. Sandstrom, the agreement with the district was ratified by the employees on Sept. 20, with more than 90 percent of those votingbeing in favor of the new contract. "Recognizing the difficulty of our times, we feel this negotiated agreement is in the best interest of the classified employees and Al pine School District. We attempted to be reasonable and appreciated the professional manner with ' which the two teams were able to negotiate," she said. The approximately 700 classified classi-fied employees make up the support sup-port services component of public education, and include bus drivers, school lunch workers, secretarial personnel, custodians, and other support service employees. |
