Show 1 Review-Wednesda- y, April 1, 1987 -- Page 5 1 PGHS Ballroom Dancers goof off a little during a rehearsal for the Evening of Ballroom Dance coming up April 6. ) Evening of Ballroom Dance planned Pleasant Grove High School proudly presents the First Annual Evening of Ballroom Dance on N Monday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the boys gym at the school. ' The Ballroom Dance Team is imder the direction of Elaine Hansen. The team will perform a v medley number that was choreographed by Elaine and Buddy Schwimmer of California. Mr. j Schwimmer is the current American Social Dance Champion of the West. Included in the performance will be the student who started it all, Curt Holman. He was the first ballroom dance student at Pleasant Grove High School. Curt will be performing two Latin numbers, Rhumba and Paso Doble, with his BYU ballroom dance partner. Paul and Michell Wilding, directors of Dance Dimension of Salt Lake City, will bring their high school --age dance team to perform. Dance Dimension recently took first place in the Ricks College Jr. Team Dance Formation Competition. Brent Mills, assistant to Mrs. Hansen, and Stephanie Walker, drill team advisor, will perform an ex-citing night club number. Both are former students of Mrs. Hansen. Private students of Mrs. Hansen will perform their cabaret routines. Lisa Brown and Steve Livingston, first place winners at the Ricks Competition, will dance their win-ning number to "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" by Geoge Gershwin. The public is invited to attend this exciting night of Ballroom Dance. Tickets are $2 a seat and will be sold at the door. 1 c 3v I ' f If 1, v f . ;i I c 'MA v u Regional winners from the Pleasant Grove High School band are trombonists, L-- Ron Shapiro, Will Kimball, Dallen Rose and Paul Mecham. --PGHS band to perform in concert On Thursday, April 2, the Pleasant Grove High School Band will present a concert under the direction of David Fullmer. The JU program will start at 7:30 p.m. in tl the PGHS auditorium. A $1 donation will be accepted at the door. The concert will feature the Jazz Band which recently received a superior rating at the BYU Jazz Festival. Will Kimball was named as an outstanding soloist at that festival. The band also received a superior rating at the Region 8 Jazz Festival. PG's trombone, section was named outstanding in Region 8. Pleasant Grove will be one of six 3A schools competing at the State Jazz Festival at Highland High School on April 4. Also featured will be those students who received superior ratings at the Region 8 SoloEn-semble. Festival. Will Kimball, Paul Mecham, Warren Wakamatsu and the Pleasant Grove Percussion Ensemble will go on to compete at the State SoloEnsemble Festival at Woods Cross High School on April 11. The concert will conclude with a performance by the combined Symphonic, Concert and Percussion classes. The program is sponsored by American Farm Bureau Federation of Park Ridge, JUlinois. Brett was presented a $100 check the State FFA Extempo raneous Public Speaking Award Winner during the State FFA Convention. Brett will compete against other state winners for one of the four nationwide regional awards. Only one regional winner will be selected from each of the four FFA ad-ministrative regions. Should he be named regional winner, Brett will travel to the national FFA Convention in Kansas City this November where a panel will judge the regional Ex temporaneous Public Speaking winning applicants to select the National winner. The winner of the National Extemporaneous Public Speaking program will be presented a plaque and a check for $300 at the National FFA Convention in November. Regional winners who place second, third and fourth on the National Level will receive $275, $250 and $225 respectively. |
