P.U. wins PGHS Lip Sync contest By JACK HILL In what was called, "One of the most successful assemblies ever held at Pleasant Grove High School," the group "Village People-Michael People-Michael Jackson-Beastie Boys" was voted first place and took home the $100 first prize following last week's Lip Sync contest. Kyle Clingo, Chris Farnell, Matt Johnson, Eric Poast, Brett Madsen, Sean Gale, Chris Brereton, Derek Johnson and Ricky Hood performed a "medley" of songs that impressed the three BYU football players who acted as judges for the contest. Second place and $75 went to the group "Bob Bennett." Jalaine Humphrey, Deanna Gray, Brenda Eldridge, Lauri Robertson, Susan Nielson and Tim Humphrey sang "Joe Cool." The $50 third place award went to "Oingo Boingo." Todd Simmons, Brent Goulding, Chris Larsen and Richard Lewis did the song "Nothing Bad Ever Happens To Me." In fourth place, Rob Greenland, Ronnie Mayo, Phil Hubert and Jason Archibald did "Weird Al Yankovic" singing "One More Minute". Jim Starr, Student Council advisor, ad-visor, said the money generated went to pay expenses of the student government during the year. Asked if this nighttime assemDiy will be tried next year, Starr Said, "You can count on it.'" More than 800 people turned out to watch the contest which proved to be a standing-room-only crowd in the high school auditorium. Mary Hill, a junior high student said, "It was really funny and worth the $1 admission price." Mike Johnson, who sang with the group "ZZ Top," said, "It was okay but it would have been a lot better if we had won."
