Photo by Laura Mcune Viking grapplers win own invitational tourney over weekend By JACK HILL Pleasant Grove won their own PG Invitational Wrestling Tournament over the weekend by withstanding a furious charge from Mountain Crest, the second place team. The Vikes totaled 143 points to 130 for Mountain Crest. Third place went to Layton 106, Tooele 101, Spanish Fork 85, Bingham 74, Viewmont 64, Skyline 43 and American Fork 28. Individual champions for the Vikes were Gary Hall, Randy Hallam and Cory Atkinson. Second place winners were Lonnie Harris and Darren Henry while third spots went to Cody Atkinson, Nathan H ilton and Ryan Bennett. Brad Mills took fourth for the Vikes. In the j unior varsity division Preston Roberts, Chad Jacob, Jason Brackenbury, Shane Duvall, Brandon Despain and Travis Hansen were individual champions. Second place winners were Brett Hallam, Casey Cluff and Warren Wakamatsu while Mark Sanderson was third. The Viking junior varsity won the team championship with 200 points with Tooele second with 117. Viewmon was third with 104, Layton 83, Mt. Crest 66, American Fork 65, Bingham 56, Skyline 51 and Spanish Fork 44. PG hosts Spanish Fork tomorrow night in the final Region 8 dual match of the year. The region tournament will b e held at Springville on Feb. 5-6. - |
