Community invited to Lindon child abuse prevention program The entire community is invited to attend a child abuse prevention meeting on Thursday, Feb. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Lindon Elementary School. The program is designed to help people stop this problem by becoming knowledgeable about it . The program is called "You're in' Charge." It is an educational program dealing with prevention ol child abuse. Children and families " who are provided factual in-- i formation in a manner and are given opportunities to anticipate situations and discuss their feelings are less likely to be victims of abuse. Some of the things which should be emphasized with all ages, at least yearly, are You're in charge at home, at school and at play ; you are an important person; your body belongs to you and you're in charge of it ; no one has the right to hurt you or touch you in a way that makes you feel confused, uncomfortable, or afraid; listen to your own un-comfortable feelings as "red flag" warnings that are to be acted on; remember, sometimes secrets are hiding things that shouldn't be hidden; it is okay to say "no," even to someone you know, even friends and relatives; you're not alone, and you're not to blame; don't be afraid to ask for help; be a good friend - if you or anoher child are frightened, confused, or hurt, tell an adult who can help. Keep telling until you get help. In addition, there is a natural progression of specific prevention concepts that gear the "You're In Charge" content to the maturity levels of children. The program is from the Utah Valley Family Support Center. Main v r-- I Pleasant I Grove QU 7853221 David Faux, Pharmacist Candida Infections We often think of only viruses and bacteria as the causes of infections of the human body. But infections are also caused by fungi - plant-lik- e organisms that can live on the skin, in various cavities of the body, and within the bloodstream. One such fungus that causes a variety of problems is Candida albicans, a true fungus that is sometimes called a yeast. Candida infections commonly occur in the mouth (thrush) and in the vagina (yeast infection). Thrush is characterized by white plaques in the mouth and is common in infants, pregnant women, and debilitated adults. When the fungus grows in the vagina, discomfort and a white discharge are common signs of infection. Candida treatment is best accomplished with prescription medicines. A variety of anti-fungal solutions and creams are available. Infections that do n ot respond to these preparations may require the use of ketoconazole which is taken by mouth. Series systemic in-fections, according to the medical journal Postgraduate Medicine, may require hospitalization and injection of medication directly into the bloodstream. Fortunately, systemic Candida infections occur infrequently. '""' ' 11 '"" '"iiiiijj. iufcnng Wife pirn Don't Let Another WeekGoBy. Our dieters lose an average of 17 to 25 lbs. in just six weeks.
