He was born Dec. 7, 1927 in St. paul, Neb. to Royal Henry and Mary Dell Parkenson Baxter. He spent his working years as a farmer, salesman and security guard after serving in World War II and Korea. He was in the Marines and regular Army for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Aria N. Mc pherson Baxter, Lehi; five sons from a previous marriage to Janet Staples Evans are: Dan R. Baxter, Payson; Michael D. Baxter, Chandler, Ariz.; Raymond H. Baxter, Terry A. Baxter and Joseph K. Baxter, all of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters: LaRue Haslam, Verda Cuthbert and Mildred, Outzen, all of California; 28 grand-children. A daughter, Linda Marie, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the Wing Mortuary Chapel, .118 E. Main, Lehi, where friend may call one hour prior. As Max has graciously donated his body for medical research at the University of Utah Medical Center, please feel free to donate to your favorite charity or medical organization or the University Medical Center in lieu of flowers. Gene Purkiss Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Elwood (Ina) Hunt, Mrs. Rulen (Myrtle) Limb, both of Lehi; Verdell Lee Johnson Carlos Eugene (Gene) Purkiss, 36, of Pleasant Grove, died Thursday, April 3, 1986 at his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1949 in Heber Springs, Ark. to Carlos Eugene and Lottie Mae Clark Purkiss. He married Mary Ann McNichols. They were later divorced. He married Debra Ann Cave Sept. 7, 1983. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years during the Vietnam conflict. He was employed as an electronics technician at Signetics. He is survived by his wife of Pleasant Grove; a son, Michael Purkiss, Hamilton, Colo.; his mother of Searcy, Ark. ; and a brother, David Purkiss, Lubbock, Tex. Services were held Sunday, April 6, in Searcy, Ark. Burial was in Pangburn, Ark. Verdell Lee Johnson, , died April 2, 1986 at iVr home in Lehi. County Commissioners to hold public meeting The Utah County Commissioners have announced they will hold their second monthly information session in the Kiwanis Room at the Pleasant Grove City Hall, 87 E 100 South, Pleasant Grove, Thursday, April 10, at 7 p.m. As in the meeting held in March at Payson, there will be no formal agenda and no decisions made at this meeting. The session will be held to give county residents an opportunity to talk directly to the commissioners to voice their concerns and make recom-mendations. Possible items for discussion will include Thistle, Traverse Ridge, planning and zoning of Utah County, Utah Lake and other matters that may be of concern to the citizens ot Utah County. "Commissioners Warnick and Miner were very pleased with the response at last month's in-formation session. The people who attended were very open in their comments to the commissioners. They expressed their concerns and also their suggestions on county decisions. Their recommendations will help the commission represent their constituency better," ac-cording to Susan Richards, assistant to Com-missioner Warnick. The third information session will be held in the Springville City Council Chambers May 8 at 7 p.m. Quilt Guild to hold monthly meeting The Utah Valley Quilt Guild will hold their monthly meeting Wed-nesday, April 16, at 2 p.m. at the Eldred Center, 270 W. 500 North, Provo. Carol Hatch, an experienced teacher of patchwork and quilting, will speak on scrap bag quilts and crazy quilts. A show and share time will follow. Everyone interested may attend the meeting free of charge. Preceding the meeting, a workshop on beginning hand piecing will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Mazey Buckley as instructor. Workshop attendance will require a $5 fee at the door. For more information, phone UVQG president, Moani Revoir, at 5 after 6 p.m. Kiwanis Club donates to Peterson School Scouts Members of the Kiwanis Club of North Utah County have donated funds to the Troop 838, the han-dicapped scout troop at Peterson School. ' A Karl Johnson, club president, made Jhe presentation to Dr. David Adamson, "school principal, last week. Johnson said donating to the scout troop at the school is a "tradition" with the club. "We have donated to the scout troop at the school for the past several years," Johnson said. Dr. Adamson said the funds will go to help, with scout projects and ac-- t tivities.
