Steelers win conference It Was a banner year for the Pleasant Plea-sant Grove Steelers of the Utah Valley Football Conference, with both the seventh and eighth grade teams having an undefeated season,, and claiming their respective titles. The 1986 Steelers eighth grade team wrapped up their season with a 257 drubbing of the Provo Conference Con-ference championship team. The win boosted the Steelers to a 10-0 mark for the season. The high-powered Steeler offense was led by Glen Montgomery, combined with rushing from David Johnston, Donnell Hooley, Derak Robinson, and Pat Weight. The receivers included Danny Schoonover, Cole Kelley, and Eric Johnsen, Tim Farnell, Carter Cluff and Brad Olsen. The offense combined for 246 points for the season. The offensive line of Chris Smith, Troy Anderson, Johnny Tolman, Mark Julkunen, Jim Clark, Jared Huntzinger, Nate Jones, Ryan Draney and Bobby Lamoreaux outmanned and outblocked their opponents, opening huge holes for their quick backs all season long. The tough-as-nails Steeler defense held their ten opponents to just 21 points all season long, and shut out their opponents in seven of the ten games. The championship team for the eighth grade was coached by coaches, Leon Smith, Darin Frampton, Daryn Smith and Mickay Robinson. Jeff Schoonover and Ashley Smith were the managers. The Steelers will field a great team next year to defend their U.V.F.C. title, since the seventh grade Steelers also stomped on their opponents to claim the to claim the 1986 seventh grade U.V.F.C. Footballk title with a record of 6-0. The seventh grade Steelers won their 1986 Conference Championship with their tenacious defense and their hard-hitting style. The seventh grade team was coached by Mike Thomas, Chad Henry and Korey Johansson. The seventh grade team looks forward to next year and defending their title while the eighth grade team moves on to play freshman football next year. The Steelers would like to thank everyone for supporting them in their excellent season. |
