By the third quarter, P.G. led but darkness came because of the late time of the game and the team ended up being beat in the fourth quarter. Scorers included Lon Franson, George Thomsen and Derrick Dickerson with one each. After losing this game there were some pretty upset kids. They managed to save some of their anger through the night and came back for a game the next day against the Amphfteheater Aquaticswhich is a combination of all the high schools in Tucson. P. G. led throughout this game and never made a mistake which resulted in a goal for the other team. They won 6-4. Scorers were Dickerson with 3, Ray Tiffany with 2 and Freshman Adam Rupper with 1. Val Blackburn was another reason for this win as he had 11 saves as goalie. The team scored three goals against the University of Arizona team in a tough game. The girls did very well in the tournament also. Their greatest achievement was tying the Cyprus High School girls who took second in the tournament. Trina Davis, a freshman who was scoreless up to this game, was one of the major reasons for this great showing. She ended up with two of the five goals. She scored her goals early and then with just minutes left in the game, sophomore Deanne Bingham, put a backhand shot in the cage for the tieing goal. Her performance in this game assured her a spot on the western regional tournament all-star team as goalie. The rest of the girls teams were tough competition for P.G. They also played the University of Arizona Women's Team, Skyline, and the Arizona Amphitheater Aquatics team. The girls leading scorer was Amber Ewell. She scored an out standing 12 goals over the two days Amber received an honorabl mention for her performance. Amber has moved to Dugway s the girls will miss her strength am spirit next year. The team became a stronger closer team over the week's trip They had fun and worked hard. Thi: will be a yearly event for those whi make the team next year. Along with Donna Fugal, Derricl Dickerson was also named to the all star team for the tournament. |
