Lt has been slow dawning, but I we finally reached the conclusion Bit we are living in the day of the ieo. A short time ago I thought we j; 're living in the day of the compter, com-pter, and, of course, we are, but it s brought with it The Video. Vt used to be that my kids thought leo games were about the neatest ng in the world. They would spend s of time and lots of their money lying them. The neighbors got an Atari with veral different games to go with it d their boys and my youngest son t so good that they set all kinds of 4 :ords. We even got an Atari but it In't have as many different games the neighbors did. j I never was any good at those Nmes. My hand-eye . coordination St could not handle it. I would get S confused at which way the joy Vck should go that I became more nse and more tense and it just was vt fun. Besides, I always lost. But then, along came the Video. ie kids were going to video parties the time and it didn't take long owners fits. It is a lot cheaper to rent a couple of videos and invite 20 people over than it is to go to the movie house. It is more fun, too, because you have to be quiet at the theater and at home you can chat during the movie if you want. You can put the VCR on pause while you go visit Mrs. Murphy or get a snack. You cannot do that at the theater. And, of course, you can rewind and see the entire movie again or just the part with the cute guy in it. Either way it is a benefit. Actually, I believe I am in favor of the Video Generation. It is something you can do at home, and you have a choice of what kind of film you want to watch. There is only one hang up for me. I don't know how to hook up the VCR to the televsion set and I don't know how to run the video. As long as the kids are there it works out fine. They do it. Is it true that you shouldn't rewind the movie right after you watch it because it will stretch the video tape? to feel that since Dad and Mom are paying for the videos that they should get to choose at least one film they want to see. They roll their eyes up when they see what we pick out sometimes, but they are polite about it. Sometimes they are even willing Someday maybe? Two P.G. youngsters marvel at the insides of a National Guard "Huey" and dream of days to come. them to decide they wanted to ve video parties, too. t a video party, a large number kids congregate before the revision set and watch movies lich they have already seen veral times and which they have Tftmorized. Only occasionally do ';y see a show they have never sn before. The reason for this is that they go r so many video parties it doesn't e long to see all the movies ailable. j n addition to watching the video, p kids eat.. They eat lots and lots of iff. At my daughter's party gently I thought we had plenty of )d on hand. It was gone in 15 ' nutes and I had to make a quick :p to the store to stock up again. 'At the end of the evening there was thing left, even the corners of the I-ow pillows had been gnawed on. :s a family, we have begun to itch more and more videos, too. s;;cently we had five over a 11 -ekend. It was enjoyable for me as P. got to see several movies that I . d wanted to see badly when they i;me out, but which I had never imaged to see. I thoroughly en-!:edthem. en-!:edthem. j-The kids are tolerant. They seem to watch our choices. And sometimes, they even like the movie. The kids at my house like "Grease II." (Personally, I liked "Grease I" better.) They have rented this video so often that they can recite the credits backwards. Near the end of the movie is a scene where the entire cast is doing a dance. There is a closeup of a smile on the male star's face. This smile turns the girls on and they rewind the video several times so ' that they can re-see that smile over and over again. Remember in the olden days when we went to a movie and they'd let you stay and watch it again? If a movie was really neat and had a guy who did that to you, you'd just stay and see the movie again. I almost always watched the movie through twice. They don't let you do that anymore. They clear out the theater when the movie is over and start all over again. No wonder the video rental stores are sprouting up all over the place. Everyone has videos to rent, from the gas station to the fabric shop. And, I can see why the video business is giving the movie theater |
