Richins Shipley, 76, of I'leasant Grove, died Monday, Feb. 17, I'JUfi in a Salt Lake City Hospital. She was born Aug 22, l'J)9 in Pleasant Grove, a daughter of Charles Emil and Kmma Stoltz Sundrjuist. She married Alfred Richins Sept. 1, 1j:!7 in Salt Iike City. He died March 19, 1975. She married Randall Shipley Oct. 5, 1978 in Elko, Nev. He died Nov. 19, 19K2. She was a member of the LDS Church living in the Pleasant Grove 12th Ward. She served a mission to C;m;irla as a young i. She had served as a i rimary worker. She spent her childhood days in and Karl R. Richins, all of Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Vernal (Cora) Messersmith and Mrs. Ralph (Glenda) Mur-doch, both of American Fork; Calvin S. Richins, Hooper; 26 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; a brother and two sisters: Neils Sundquist, Lake Elsinore, Calif.; Emma Snelling Couer D Alene, Idaho; and Ruth Gillette, Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove 12th Ward Chapel, 500 S. 300 East, under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary. Friends may call Thursday at the church one hour prior to ser-vices. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Pleasant Grove and attended schools there and later graduated from BYU and Henager Business College. She worked at the Pleasant Grove post office. Survivors include four daughters and three sons: John A. Richins, Mrs. Clifton (Mary) Wadley, Mrs. Allen (Louise) Austin Lorene Miller Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 17, for Lorene Helen Carter Miller, 64, Cedar Fort, who died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1986, at an American Fork care center. She was born July 6, 1921, in Okmulgee, Olka., to Willie and Effie Kaysie Carter. She married William Jack Miller on April 6, 1946, in Las Vegas, Nev. She is survived by her husband of Cedar Fort; two sons and one daughter: Loren Jack Miller, Murray; Maj. Bradley W. Miller, Concord, Calif.; Mary Joy Miller, Cedar Fort; Calvin Cook, with Ileen Cook playing the prelude and postlude music. The family prayer was offered by Clifford Miller. Howard Ault offered the invocation. Speakers included Bishop Cook and Bob Hunt. Paul Peterson sang a vocal solo. The benediction was by Jack Miller, Jr. Pallbearers were Harold Calton, Ray Ault, Von Miller, Tom Mehhem, Glen Ashley, Jr., and Darrel Adams. Sykes Family Post 19 assists Johnson services Members of Post 19 of the American Legion traveled to Edgemont Memorial Cemetry in Provo to conduct military services at the graveside of Irving D. Johnson. Acting Commander was Dean Colledge with Henry Clegg as flag bearer. Paul Evans, Sherwin Allred, Harold Fenn, Ralph and Carl Harris made up the Firing Squad. Members of the Provo D.A.V. Post dedicated the grave. Mr. Johnson, from Lehi, died Jan. 30 at Humana Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. May George She is survived bj several nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary Chapel in American Fork. Burial was in the American Fork City Cemetery. May Pennman George, 81, died Feb. 14, 1986, in American Fork. She was born May 6, 1904, in Frontier, Wyo., to John William and Hariet Ann Fern Pennman. She married William George Jan. 31, 1920, in Sublet, Wyo. He died Dec. 12, 1958. She was a member of the LDS Church, and worked as a baker at the Utah State Training School for 28 years. She has lived in American Fork since 1935. Cancer update clinic sponsored at hospital A free cancer update clinic will be sponsored by the American Fork Hospital on Monday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the hospital board room. These clinics will be offered routinely on the last Monday of each month. Participants attending the clinic will view a short film of breast self examination, followed by a discussion and questionanswer period to be presented by Vernita Nuttall, R.N. A tour of the new mammography room will be con-ducted by Eileen Farmer, a cer-tified radiology technician, who will also explain the mammography procedure. "Breast self examination is the most effective method of detecting early symptoms of breast cancer. If detected early, breast cancer can be controlled. This important exam is something all women can do for themselves, at no expense," ex-plained Nuttall, Inservice Education Coordinator. Breast cancer is the most com mon malignancy"; .In American women, striking .Qiie.'put of every 11. It also the leading cause of death in the 35-5- 4 year age group. Even though most lumps can be detected through routine self examination, a 1984 American Cancer Society survey showed that only 27 percent of women do it routinely. Mammogram breast are used to aid in more accurate detection of breast lumps, and for confirming lymph gland in-volvement. Lumps discovered at 34 inch or less in size result in an 85-9- 0 percent cure rate, due to early detection. Anyone with a family history of cancer should begin yearly mammograms after age 40. Everyone over 50 should also be scheduled for yearly exams. If these exams are performed routinely, cancer deaths can be reduced by 40 percent in the over 50 age group.
