Timpview came into the game having just beaten Provo, the number one rated team in the state. In the Provo game, Terri Raisor had scored a remarkable 40 points. Coach Marie Bone, debated using a "trick defense", like a on Raisor, but decided to go with a straight 2-- 3 zone. The hustling Lady Viking defense held Raisor to seven points to produce the win. On the offensive end, Erin Measom had another terrific game. Her inside play produced 17 points, a bundle of rebounds, several blocked shots and she never seemed to stop for a breather. Debbie Fisher and Cherylnn Johnson scored 16 points each to give the Vikes a balanced scoring punch. Jayleen Walker had 8, Lila Fugal 4 and Michelle Johnson 2 for PG. Timpviews Nancy Utley was high scorer with 22. The tall Thunderbird did most of her scoring from point blank range. PG had 24 field goals and hit 15 of 23 from the line. Timpview scored 23 field goals and made 9 of 19 from the free throw line. r r U O : M In i f ? . Junior hunter program plans competition Few Utahns fail to recognize the dramatic decrease in hunting ac-cidents brought about by Utah's junior hunter education program. The mandatory course has served for years to instill safety awareness, enhance m arksman-ship- , foster an appreciation of the resource and promote hunter responsibility in Utah youngsters. Now, volunteer instructors of the Utah Hunter Education Instructor Association (UHEIA) seek to reward the enthusiasm of those .young Utah hunters who have honed their hunting skills to a competitive point. In with the National Rifle Association and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, the UHEIA will hold a statewide Hunter Education Championship com-petition at the Lee Kay Hunter Education Center in Salt Lake City over this May 3 and 4 week-end. Individual competitive events will be held for .22 rifle, shotgun, archery, and hunter responsibility outdoor skills. All Utah hunters under age 21 are eligible to compete in either the junior or senior category provided they have completed a Utah hunter education course and are sponsored by a certified Utah hunter education instructor. The instructors need not be UHEIA members nor have taught that competitor's hunter education course. Competitors age 14 and under may compete in the junior category. Trophies and awards will be presented in both the junior and senior categories for each of the four competitive events and a team of champions will be selected to represent Utah at NRA's North American Hunter Education Championship in North Carolina in July. Interested young hunters and instructors may obtain entry forms and information by contacting the UHEIA at P.O. Box 73645, Murray, Utah 84107. The UHEIA will assist in finding sponsoring instructors for young applicants needing a sponsor. Individuals and sportsman's groups throughout the state are urged to sieze upon this opportunity to recognize Utah's young hunters for the excellence they have at-tained by encouraging potential competitors to try for Utah's championship team. |
