V :jJ By JACK HILL Pleasant Grove capitalized on a Z distance running core to win stf B-eion 8 Track Championship tSinmeetheldatPleaSant GC Vikes earned 56 points in the , nre events with the trio of Ron ?!5ds Blaine Maez and Greg IXr being the big point winners. Sreesome picked up 42 points 1p 1600 and 3200 M runs to help t to first place with 160 points Pih Carbon second with 123. Sringville was third in the boys m scoring with 90, followed by ijprish Fork with 79, Payson 46 and Albert Jolley came through with fij place points for the Vikes by-Line by-Line the javelin and then edging Spanish Fork's Steve Olsen in the "jjey as second in the 400 M and finished the day by anchoring the M M relay team to a second place Ish and 8 points. Todd Simmons, Rill Adamson and Paul Mattinson ere other members of that relay pG's high jumpers gathered in 18 noints when Kerry VanDyke, VFayne Eddington and Todd Simmons Sim-mons placed second, third and fourth in that event. VanDyke was also second in the long jump. Brett Henrie, a junior, surprised nearly everyone by taking the lead down the backstretch in the 800 M. Henrie held on for second place with Reynolds right behind in third. Despite a muscle pull, Bill Adamson was second in the 100 hurdles, fifth in the 300 hurdles, plus running a leg on the 1600 M relay team. . . Todd Simmons was third in the 400 and brother Ron Simmons was sixth. Ron tore a muscle in the trials and painfully ran the finals to get PG the sixth place point. Stan Harvey picked up 8 points in the discus and shot put while Darrin Giles got 4 points in the javelin and Rick Mayo earned a point in the pole vault. Geral Newman and Scott Flinders ran on the 400 M relay team that earned points. The Region Track Championship follows the Cross Country Championship, Cham-pionship, giving PG a sweep in the Region 8 boys events. The Lady Vikings scored 70 points -lor fourth in the meet. Springville had 175 points to win the meet, with Spanish Fork 99, Carbon 81, PG 70, Payson 29 and Lehi 28. The team of Debbie Fisher, Michelle Johnson, Angie Bronson and Jill West are region champions in the 1600 M relay. Lila Fugal was second in the 100 hurdles and third in the high and long jumps. West was second in the 800 and Fisher second in the 400. Rhonda Simmons picked up points with a fourth in the 100 and a third in the 300 hurdles. Other Lady Vikes who earned points were Michelle Smith, Camille Larson and Christine Lutes. The state meet is scheduled for this weekend at Weber State.
