Show Guidi judges regional ballet Ronn Guidi, artistic director of the n.kland Ballet Company, traveled . Utah to adjudicate the Utah Regional Ballet for the Pacific Regional Ballet Festival '85, and We feel god about our chances-said chances-said Jackie Colledge The adjudication took place on Feb 25 at the DeJong Concert Hall t BYU If Utah Regional Ballet's Lformance is worthy, according to Guidi's interpretation, the group will oerform at the Festival to be held ay g, io and 11 in Stockton, Calif. The' company performed three nieces of choreography for Guidi. "Vivace" created by Artistic Director, Jacqueline Colledge to Dvorak's Slavonic Dances and "For Bach" to Bach's Suite No. 3 in D. Also shown was "More Precious than Rubies," a new piece choreographed by Corinnen Adams for the Young Choreographer's Workshop held during the Festival Ralph Laycock and members of the Utah Valley and Utah Symphony Orchestra provided the accompaniment ac-companiment for the Company's presentation. Mr. Guidi observed the Company in a warm-up class prior to the adjudication and told the dancers, "You are very fortunate to have such a gifted and talented teacher, as well as choreographer, for your artistic director. I have seen many companies throughout the United Staes and you have all the makings of a good professional company." Guidi singled out Julie Miller and Tiffanie Beck as very talented dancers. He was also very complimentary about the costumes, "These are definitely the finest costumes I have seen yet in the Region." Utah Regional Ballet's costume designer is Sarah Price, of Lehi. Enthusiastic about what he had seen, Guidi's complimentary remarks about the performance left everyone with a feeling of pride to be connected in any way with Utah Regional Ballet. Regional ballet festivals are held in five areas throughout the United Staes. Companies have to audition and be accepted as a performing member in any of the five regions including Mid-States, Northeast, Pacific, Southeast, Southwest, and a separate professional wing. Each region selects an adjudicator ad-judicator to judge each company and select the ballets to be performed per-formed at the festival. Pacific Regional Ballet's Festival will be held in Stockton, Calif, on May 9-11. Jacqueline hopes that her company com-pany will be selected as one of the top seven in the region to perform the last evening of the festival. "He liked us. I know he did, "Jacqueline said. Utah Regional Ballet will be informed in-formed of the selections by April 1. Prestige-wise, it would be a feather in their cap if they are selected, according to the director. Several Utah Regional Ballet board members had the opportunity to speak with Guigi including JoAnne Brown, Valerie Kelson and Dennis Larsen. Larsen quoted Guigi, "he said, 'Many times dancers dan-cers perform in classes, but don't carry the instruction through to their performances, but these dancers carry their class instruction through to their performances. They are obviously very well trained.' " Larsen also said that Guidi was very positive about Utah Regional Ballet's chances for the festival." |
