Show Future moms learn sewing skills In today's economy, sewing is avery valuable skill. With the rising prices of clothes, being able to sew is a skill well worth attaining. At Pleasant Grove Junior High School, teachers are busily at work teaching eighth and ninth graders the basic fundamentals of home sewing. Pleasant Grove is lucky to have such a modern and well equipped sewing lab. The lab operates with 25 sewing machines which enable 125 students to learn to sew each semester. The eighth graders learn the basics of sewing while completing five projects in just one semester. Starting out with two small projects, the students also complete a skirt, shirt and a doll made from scraps which makes learning to sew easy on the pocketbook. The ninth grade advance in their skills by making a button down shirt and two other projects challenging their skills. Along with the beautiful facility, students are fortunate to be taught by instructor Beth Finch, a Utah State University graduate very skilled in clothing and textiles. Miss Finch enjoys teaching and loves working with the students. With the skills students attain in junior high, they are able to sew their own clothes for enjoyment, as well as to save money. Miss Finch is presently assisted by student teacher Rachelle Worley. |
