' : Shakespeare's immortal "Romeo and Juliet" will be brought to life at the American Fork High School's stage this week, beginning today. Saturday, March 16, the world's most famous romance will be one of the highlights of a Medieval and Renaissance Fair at the high school featuring the talents of students from throughout the Alpine School District. Performances are scheduled tonight through Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the AFHS auditorium. Admission will be $1 with activity card and $2.50 for general admission. The performance will be preceded by a 10 minute Greenshow by students from Pleasant Grove High School. The Greenshow is directed by Elayne Hansen from PGHS. Some Pleasant Grove students are also playing in the production. Megan Kelly and James McQuivey will be featured in the title roles of the production. Linwood C. Thompson, who is directing the production, and who teaches drama at AFHS, said the performance will also feature an original set designed by Kevin Dudley, an AFHS alumnus who is now attending the University of Utah. Dudley has also worked on the stage design for the Park City Shakespearean Festival last year, Thompson said. He described the stage as a universal set which can be used for the broad variety of scenes called for Shakespearean drama. Richard Flygare, a sound engineer with experience at the Park City festival, will be handling sound equipment for the production. Period costumes have been designed and created for the Tybalt (Eric Cashin) and Romeo (James McQuivey) face off in fight to the death in AFHS production of Romeo and ; Juliet this Wednesday through Saturday. .' production by Ruth Ann Roberts, who came from Seattle to help with the production. Thompson said Shakespearean drama is difficult for high school students, but says American Fork students have benefited from heavy dose of Shakespeare during their high school careers. "This is the hardest thing they will ever do," Thompson said. "We do one Shakespeare play a year. By the time these actors graduate from high school here they have had more Shakespeare than most college graduates." As a result, he said, American Fork High School students traditionally rank high among the performers at the annual Park City festival - with 15 former and current students participating in last year's production. Student directors for the production are Jolene Wyler and Eric Cashin, and actors are receiving special help from Tom Hansen, also a former Am. Fork student. Other performers will include Chris Richards as the nurse, Megan Marshall as Prudence, Marty Van Leinden as Merculio, Kyle Johnson as Benvolio and Eric Cashin as Tybalt. Lord and Lady Capulet will be portrayed by Patrick Cloward and Andrea Blake. Their counterparts in the Montague family will be played by Lee Brady and Tiffiney Linton. Other players will include David Caldwell as Samson; Scott Bradford as Gregory, Cyndy Asay as Rosalyn, Brett Madsen and Balthasar, Neil Rogers as Friar John and as Abraham and Jerry Schmidt as Friar Lawrence.
