Pit wx( M0Xf!MBmik '' '' V x s - Carrie Watson, daughter of Sarah C Watson, 495 S. 1100 E., Pleasant Grove, is a member of the Hands Up! troupe that presented concerts i in Logan March 7, 8 and 9. A 1982 graduate of Pleasant j Grove High School, Carrie is a junior majoring in special education at Utah State University. Besides ! participating in Hands Up!, Carrie sings in the University Choir. She ,( attends USU on a Utah Career I Teaching Scholarship. Hands Up! is a unique en-i en-i tertainment group that combines song, dance and comedy with the beautiful language of the deaf - I I American Sign Language. ' Hands Up! uses sign language not j only for the artistic dimension, but i also to cross the language barrier, , ! providing quality entertainment for (, both the hearing and the deaf, , j Carrie said. Several members of the ji troupe are hearing impaired. An outstanding feature of this expands the population with whom deaf people can communicate, she added. The group originally performed benefit concerts for the Disabled Student Center at USU. Hands Up! now is a part of USU Student Productions which sends top student performing groups throughout and into surrounding states. The group recently was featured at the Utah Special Winter Olympics Olym-pics training camp, at the Miss Drill Team pageant and as finalists on "Puttin' on the Hits." They were named Organization of the Year in 1984 at the annual student recognition night at USU, Robins Awards. The group won an audition this spring at the Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio in Hollywood as part of "Puttin' on the Hits" and will be featured during March on PM Magazine Utah. 1 Carrie Watson group is that it instills a desire in others to learn sign language which |
