Timpview clips undefeated Vikings as Murphy's Law goes into effect By JACK HILL "Murphy's Law", anything that can go wrong will, describes PG's play against Timpview Friday night as the Vikes fell, 17-- in the battle of the two unbeaten Region 8 teams. Under the lights at Timpview, the Vikes played tough defense in holding the to 209 yards, but the Thunderbirds were tougher. For the first time in years, PG was held to minus rushing yards and finished the night with 112 total yards of offense. Kerry VanDyke intercepted a Timp pass at the 26 and returned it 10 yards to the 26 to stop the Timp-view first drive. Murphys Law then got into action. A clipping penalty moved PG back to the 13 and on the first play, a fumbled pitch gave the the ball on the three. It took 4 plays for the Thun-derbirds to score but on fourth down, a halfback pass, Justin Anderson to Frank Christiansen, made it 6-- The Vikes blew a zone coverage that allowed Christiansen to be "all alone" for the touchdown reception. Todd Seamons kicked the extra point to make it 0 halfway through the first period. Following the kickoff, the Vikes tried a flanker reverse and Rob Collins stripped the ball loose at the 16 where the recovered. PG put up a terrific defense with Dan Phelon breaking through to throw Thunderbird runners for losses. A field goal on fourth down was wide to the right. After the quarter change and on the next Viking series, Murphy Law again came into play. A middle screen pass, Shawn Jacobsen to Darren Hooley, resulted in a five yard gain but the ball was fumbled and Doug Stone recovered for Timpview at the PG 13. Three Viking fumbles had been recovered by Timpview all inside the PG 16 yard line. A third down pass from quar-terback Jeff Lindstrom to Anderson gave the fired up a 14-- 0 lead. The teams then traded pass in-- . terceptions with Josh Bickerton picked off two for the Vikes and Frank Christiansen getting three for the In the fourth period, PG used a 36- - yard halfback pass, Chris Singer to Brent Larsen and four penalties to get to the three yard line where Hooley cracked over left guard to score. Russ Johnson and Bickerton made key blocks on the touchdown run. With six minutes left in the game, the Vikes tried a trick pass play off of the extra point alignment but the pass was just inches too high for Larsen and the score stayed at 14-- PG's kickoff coverage was tough and a crushing tackle caused the ball to be fumbled. But as the script had been most of the n ight, the recovered the loose ball. A long pass completion Lindstrom to Christiansen set up a Seamons 21 yard field goal to ice the game for the unbeaten Thunderbirds. Chad Henry, Viking tailback, took a terrific hit after catching a pass and will be out of action for an' undetermined period with a possible injury to a kidney. PG hosts the number one ranked Springville Red Devils October 17. The game will be Thursday because of the deer hunt. Springville is unbeaten and leads the league in offense and defense.
