Show Alda Fugal Gardner Arlen L. Gates j obituaries ) i i Charles E. Oliver Arlen L. Gates, 52, Pleasant Grove, died Saturday.Nov. 9, 1985 at his home of heart failure. He was born July 7, 1933 in Park City, a son of Charles J. and Mary C. (Lottie) Frisby Gates. He married Lyndsay Forsyth Bruce of New Zealand on Sept. 19, 1957 in London, England. He was a member of the LDS Church living in the Pleasant Grove 11th Ward. He served with distinction and honor in the U.S. Army for over 20 years. Since his retirement he has been employed by Pinkerton Security Service of Salt Lake City as a field captain. He is survived by his wife of Pleasant Grove; five sons and two daughters: Charles F. Gates, Salt Lake City; Bruce L. Gates and Charlene M. Gates, both of Vernal; Allen H. Gates, Hawaii; Michele D. Gates, Gregory C. Gates and Ross P. Gales, all of Pleasant Grove; his mother of Pleasant Grove; a brother and three sisters: Jay C. Gates, Roosevelt; Mildred Leong, San Francisco; Edith J. McClellen, Provo; Carolyn M. Bruce, Opelonsas, Louisiana; three step brothers and five step sisters: Ray F. Carlson, June Pender and Leone Brown, all of Salt Lake; Lee R. Carlson and Fern Colledge, both of Pleasant Grove; C LaVar Carlson and Merle Gillespie, both of Orem; Mildred Taylor, Salem. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove 11th Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the ward chapel one hour prior to services. ser-vices. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Jr ' Charles Ernest (Ernie) Oliver, 72, of Lehi, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1985 at his home of natural causes. He was born Sept. 15, 1913 in Lark, Utah to Ruben Charles and Gertrude Peterson Oliver. He married Myrtle Emily Smith Sept. 11, 1937 in Salt Lake City. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died May 4, 1958. He later married DeVere Evans Flygare April 28, 1961 in -Lehi. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Aug. 15, 1970. He worked for 37 years in the Lark mine, then was employed as Memorial Building groundskeeper in Lehi City for nine years for which he was presented beautification awards each year, tying for first place with Liberty Park and Peace Gardens Gar-dens in the state of Oliver, West Valley City; Bert Oliver, South Jordan; Richard Oliver, Lehi; Mrs. Larry (Sharolyn) Powell, Salt Lake City; step-children: Karleen Sorenson, Mary Jean Robinson, Linda Herrera, Robert Lynn Flugare, Richard K. Flygare, and adopted daughter, Rose Ann Hill; 45 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters: Raymond Oliver, Riverton; Isaac Oliver, Midvale; Mrs. Althea Brogan, Murray; and Mrs. Red (Ruth) Mayne, Kearns. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. in the Lehi 9th Ward Chapel, 300 N. 500 East. Friends may call at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main, Lehi, Wednesday Wed-nesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and also Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Draper City Cemetery. Van Wagoner Thanks Alda Viola Fugal Gardner, Afton, Wyo., a prominent retired seminary teacher, died at age 81 at her daughter's home in Nephi, Saturday afternoon, af-ternoon, Nov. 9, 1985, of natural causes. She was well known in the LDS Church for her accomplishments during her 28 years of teaching seminary. Twenty-seven of those years were spent in Star Valley. She was born July 9, 1904 in Pleasant Grove, a daughter of Jens Peter Fugal and Lavina C. Fugal (American Mother of the Year, 1955). She married Milford Irvin Gardner Oct. 3, 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and seminary in 1923, where she gave the seminary graduation valedictory address. Alda attended BYU in 1923- 24 and later completed her B.S. degree through attending at-tending many summer schools. She graduated with high honors in 1952 (member Phi Kappa Phi National Honorary Society). She accepted a call to the Eastern States Mission from 1924- 26 and had many choice experiences, serving under President B.H. Roberts, including meeting her future husband. She and her husband later accepted a call to the Cumorah Mission from 1964-66. Following her marriage, she made her home in Afton, Wyo., in Star Valley, as We g'vmg humo " s readings. Fugal, both of Pleasant Grove. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janeene. A viewing was held at the Pleasant Grove 3rd Ward Chapel on Monday, Nov. 11. Van Wagoner Sally Francom David L. Van Wagoner Utah. He was active in scouting for 47 years and earned the Silver Beaver Award. He was a High Priest in the LDS Church and was a home teacher. He was active in the Lions Club for 23 years, with perfect attendance, at-tendance, and attended all local and nrtional conventions and served as president and secretarytreasurer of that organization. He is survived by his wife of Lehi; three sons and one daughter: Gail Jessica K. Little the beautiful Star Valley where her husband was born and raised. It was there that she gained church-wide prominence through her 28 years of teaching seminary -- 10 of which she served as principal. One of these teaching years was spent in American Fork during a time when she and her husband were needed to help with her mother's care. She influenced the lives of hundreds of young people through her deep testimony, coupled with her superb teaching ability and knowledge of the gospel. She has written many published articles and poems and has been a sought-after speaker and reader for numerous events. She served as a Sunday School teacher -- mostly Gospel Doctrine Doc-trine -- for 42 years and received an Honorary Gleaner Award for 25 years of continuous service in MIA as ward and stake president and dance, drama and speech director. She directed many plays in Jessica Kym Little, 7, Lehi, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1985 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center following a lingering illness. She was born Oct. 11, 1978 in Salt Lake City to Albert J. and Evelyn Gidney. Survivors include her parents . of Lehi ; grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Marvin J. Holmes, Murray; and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Little, Holladay; and a great grandmother, Mrs. Margaret K. Ipsen, Salt Lake City. Services were held Monday, Nov. 11, at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, Provo. Burial was in the Lehi City Cemetery. Kimberlee McDonald Reynolds Card of Thanks Kimberlee McDonald, 17, Lindon, died Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Nov. 6, 1985 in. an automobile accident. She was born June 11, 1968 in Murray, a daughter of Phillip Ray and Joan Swenson McDonald! She was a member of the LDS Church Mrs. Emil F. Swenson, American Fork; and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hansen, Vallejo, Calif. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 11, in the Lindon 2nd Ward Chapel.
