The building was actually built in 1893 for a grade school. When the Central School was built in about 1912, the old building was used for the high school. In about 1921 the new high school was built on 100 E. 200 South. For a time while the high school was still there it was used as a meeting place for the Third Ward and in 1929-30 it was remodeled into a nice chapel. It was in 1909 that the First, Second and Third Wards were created. James H. Walker was named as bishop of the Third Ward. The school building was rented so that Sunday School could be held. In remodeling the building the original roof was removed and a lower one replaced it. The tower was taken down, the main entrance built on the east and the red brick walls were modernized moder-nized with stucco. The inside was completely rearranged. The remodeling job cost $32,000. In 1932 the building was dedicated by President Heber J. Grant. In 1954, the Third Was was divided and the Sixth Ward was created. Because of crowded conditions new plans called for a recreation room, together with other additions. The church was again dedicated by Elder Theodore Tuttle. The building at present houses the Third, Eleventh and Sixteenth Wards and truly has a heritage. . , 1 ' . w -vfes - . ; I . - : , W 'Mi ? xf f " - " 'J ;l " ' - , 7 ' - - - h , " j: ; $j Pleasant Grove Third Ward - the way it used, to k;ok 75 years ago. |
