Show Citizen, Review, Press, Mon., Nov. 21, 1983 - Page 22 Share holidays with foreign student Holidays can be a lonely time for foreign students who are thousands of miles away from home, but Utah valley residents can make the festivities more enjoyable by volunteering for a holiday cultural exchange. The exchange program sponsored by the International Office at BYU matches foreign students with families interested in sharing the Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday. "The response from host families has been very positive," said Dianna Black, administrative assistant for the International Office. "We've found that most families have really enjoyed having the students in their homes." For more information about the holiday cultural exchange, contact the BYU International Office, 378-369- '' ' 1 - ; y- - V - Jy u TICKETS ARE ON SALE for the 25th anniversary production of "Christmas Around the World," Dec. 2 and 3, featuring the Brigham Young University International Folk Dancers. Christmas Around the World BYU's International Folk Dan-cers will present their silver an-niversary performance of "Christmas Around the World" Dec. 2 and 3 in the Marriott Center at BYU. Tickets for the 8 p.m. per-formance, which will include the Young Ambassadors and the colorful Dancing Waters, are available at the Marriott Center Ticket Office, 378-566- and at all ZCMI Datatix outlets. In addition to the traditional display of dances and Christmas customs from around the world by the more than 300 folk dancers, the globe-trottin- g Young Ambassadors will perform original arrangements of a variety of popular Christmas carols and songs. The upbeat opener, "Happy Holiday," will feature a full or-chestral arrangement by former Young Ambassador Lon Madsen with choreography by Dee Win-terton. The Appalachian carol "I Wonder As I Wander" will be spotlighted, along with the Ukrainian "Carol of the Bells" and Czech "Carol of the Bells," as well as traditional Polish and Japanese carols. The dancers will perform authentic choreography from the diverse cultures of Italy, Mexico, Poland, Armenia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Israel and Japan, as well as the popular folk and clog steps of the U.S. One of the most spectacular features of this year's concerts will be the Dancing Waters, syn-chronized jets of thousands of gallons of recirculating water that leap, swirl and glide to the beat of the music, all intensified by special lighting effects. A long-tim- e trademark of Liberace's popular Las Vegas show, the Dancing Waters has been a featured performer for several Donny and Marie Osmond engagements, the Miss America and Miss Universe televised pageants, as well as numerous fairs and trade shows. Originally developed in Germany, the Dancing Waters made its American debut in 1953 in Radio City Music Hall under the direction of Harold Steinman, whose wife, Caryl, still supervises the unit's year-roun- d world-wid- e schedule. The 25th annual "Christmas Around the World" is under the direction of its founder, Mary Bee Jensen, assisted by Delynne Peay and- - Dennis" 'Hill. Young Am-bassador directors are Randy Booth and Dee Winterton. Technical supervision for the production will be by Gary Hopkinson. noloanfeT I 14.25 ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE Fully amortizing No balloon payment Second Trust Deed Loans on owner-occupie- d residences SmW Camih Other competitive programs also available For . professional and confidential service call pt' convenient U.S. Thrift & Loan branch''0 "f U.S.Thrift sLq American Fork 756-525- 8 Orem 224-05S- 2 Brigham City 723-721- 2 Price 637.73 56 Logan-752-- 0662 Salt Lake Moab-259-- 5184 Spanish ForLS West Jordan-566-- 8743 equal mien lender Subject to approval of credit and collateral. Expo Mart displays holiday magic Christmas gifts, arts, crafts and hobbies will all be on display Nov. 25, 26 and 27 at the Expo Mart, 230 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City. The display is free to the public. Booth fees have been lowered this year to encourage more par-ticipation in the annual exposition, according to Vern Saunders who organized the event. Saunders says this year's show is "perhaps the largest and most interesting gift show ever in the state of Utah." The show will feature en-tertainment starting Nov. 25 at noon, with groups like the Murray Community Dancers, singers from throughout the state and gym-nastics groups. Santa will also be on hand. Saunders said 100 exhibitors are already planned for the show. |
