Show Lraple Square plans festive season LeLDS Church has announced a Lth-long series of Christmas Lcerts and other holiday season Wvities on Salt Lake City's Lple Square. . Hie traditional Christmas lighting Lay, featuring some 215,000 tiny kts in the trees and shrubs and bog the walks and walls of the Lre, will begin with a formal Eremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. Hie ceremony will mark the Lai beginning of the holiday tasoii activities, which will include jncerts by the Mormon Tabernacle toir, the Mormon Youth Sym-icny Sym-icny and Chorus, the Salt Lake ratorio Society, numerous anises from area high schools id other organizations, plus organ Scitals and movies. The Carolers & Brass section of i Mormon Youth Symphony,, :der the direction of Robert C. redeh, will provide the music for flighting ceremony which will be inducted on the plaza of the North iiitors Center. That same evening, the made-for-television movie, "Mr. Krueger's Christmas," starring James Stewart and the Tabernacle Choir, will be shown at 7 p.m. in the North Visitors Center, and will then be shown continuously throughout the balance of the Christmas season. There will be a variety of concerts in the Assembly Hall and the North Visitors Center, all sponsored by the General Activities Committee of the Church. Concerts will be held each night from Nov. 25-Dec. 30, including in-cluding the regular Friday and Saturday Temple Square concert series in the Assembly Hall and performances by a variety of organizations in both the Assembly Hall and the visitors center. Tickets are required only for the Salt Lake Oratorio Society's performance of "The Messiah," and may be obtained ob-tained from the Utah Symphony Box Office. Activities in the historic Tabernacle Taber-nacle will include: -Daily at noon, Tabernacle Organ recitals. -Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 11, 8 p.m., Handel's "The Messiah," Salt Lake Oratorio Society. -Friday, Dec. 16, 8 p.m., Mormon Youth Symphony & Chorus Christmas Concert, Robert C. Bowden, director. Saturday, Dec. 17, and Tuesday, Dec. 20, 8 p.m., Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concerts. -Sunday, Dec. 18, 6:30 p.m., Church-wide "Christmas Fireside." This program will be transmitted live via satellite to some 600 gatherings around the U.S. . -Saturday, Dec. 24, 8 p.m., "The Feeling of Christmas," a special Christmas-eve program. -Every Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals. -Every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., ' Mormon Tabernacle -' Choir radio and television broadcasts. The Christmas lighting display will continue through Sunday, Jan. 1, 1984. |
