Show Review - Thursday. Julv 15. 1982 - Paee r ' Yanks Squeeze Cards In 5-- 4 Win By LINDA HARRIS Last Thursday, the two top little league teams in the American League clashed in a battle for first place. It was a game both teams had anxiously awaited since the Cards upset the Yanks in a tight game at the first of the season. The Yanks started off the scoring in the first inning when Chad Frampton stole in for a point. In the next three innings both teams were held scoreless when at the top of the fourth Darrin Lloyd of the Cards got a hit off pitcher, Shane Duvall, and brought in Clint Kelly and Brian Larsen. That brought the score to 2-- 1 in favor of the Cards. In the bottom of the fourth, Todd Johnson of the Yanks doubled and then came in on a single hit by his brother, Eric. That tied things up with a score of The fifth inning, tension continued to rise as the Cards scored two runs when Clint Kelly batted in Chad Peacock and Brian Lloyd. The Yanks remained scoreless in the bottom of the 5th, while Chad Peacock continued to pitch for the Cards. T" Hs followed i Hi" civth and final inning with an unsuccessful attempt to widen their lead. Going into their final ups, the Yanks had an uphill climb if they were to top the Cards. Matt Ash and Paul Duvall both got hits off Quinn Walker. Jason Smith followed with a single, thus filling up the bases. Then Chad Frampton hit a single and the two players on 2nd and 3rd came in, tying up the score, 4-- 4. Dustin Chipman was up next. He connected for a single making the bases loaded again. Then with a hard line drive to the fence, Cary Secretan brought in the winning run and the game was up with a final score of 5-- The win by the Yanks brought them to a 11-- 2 score for the season to tie for first in the league with the Cards. Then both teams won their games in competition Monday night bringing their total season score to 12-- 2 and placing them in the position for a final standoff for the championship Thursday night, July 15 at 5:30pm at the Little League diamond at the west end of Pleasant Grove High School.
