Show Includes Mark Howard Group installs board The Annual Business meeting of the Utah Hospital Association (UHA) has elected new officers and members to the Board of Trustees to direct the association through 1983. The UHA Chairman elect is Val Christen-sen, Christen-sen, administrator at Mountain View Hospital Hosp-ital in Payson. Chris-tensen Chris-tensen will be installed in November, 1983 replacing re-placing Mike Falck, who will serve as Chairman of the Board beginning Nov. 8, 1982. New members of the board include Kay Mat-sumura, Mat-sumura, administrator of Brigham City Hospital; Hos-pital; Mark Howard, administrator at American Am-erican Fork; and Lin Carriger as treasurer, administrator at Lake-view Lake-view Hospital in Bountiful. Bount-iful. At the meeting, the administrators unanimously unan-imously voted to support supp-ort six pro-active health proposals in response to the great concern for rising health care costs. The hospital administrators admin-istrators voted to support the passage of the Utah Child Passenger Pass-enger Safety Act; the re-enactment of a motorcycle helmet law, and implementation of a passive seat belt restraint protection system; to play an active role in educating the public on the harmful effects of tobacco to-bacco and the continued con-tinued use of smoking cessation clinics, re quest the support of the health insurance industry in-dustry in designing incentives in-centives to encourage policy holders to stop smoking; continued development and support supp-ort of wellness programs pro-grams by business, labor and insurance; and the passage of legislation designed to reduce the frequency of alcohol and drug . related re-lated automobile accidents. acci-dents. Turning to the issue of peer review, the house of delegates also voted to support a UPRO resolution designed de-signed to bring hospitals, hos-pitals, physicians, insurance in-surance companies and business together to continue discussion on effective statewide peer and utilization review programs and the programs pro-grams enacted by Congress. Con-gress. During the business proceedings, the hospital hospi-tal administrators heard from Michael H. Annison, vice president of the Naisbitt Group speaking on the . "Forces that are Driving Driv-ing the Nation." The Denver-based group monitors changes in the behavior of society and currently produces the "Trend Report." Dr. William DeVries followed with a presentation pres-entation on "the artificial arti-ficial heart" research being conducted at the University Medical Center. |
