Spanish took an early lead, 14-1- after eight minutes of play but then the Vikes suddenly became more aggressive, both on defense and offense, to pull away from the visiting Dons. Tom Bird had his finest night as a Viking, pulling down 21 rebounds and scoring 15 points on the way to a plus 35 night. According to Coach Keith Allred, Bird's performance is the best in the past several years as determined by the statistical system used by Pleasant Grove. From the spectators view, Bird's performance was just as impressive as he appeared to be all over the floor. His rebounding performance against the taller Don's helped spark the Vikes to their second n win. Chris Kitchen had 18 points for PG with Matt Norman adding 12. When the Vikes returned to the floor after the break between the first and second quarters, it was hard to tell it was the same team. With Kitchen shooting and Bird rebounding and scoring, the Vikes outscored Spanish Fork 17-- 8 in the second period and kept the momen-tum going right through the second half. Coach Allred started two sopho-mores, Brad Kitchen and Mark Clements, a junior, Matt Norman, and seniors Bird and Chris Kitchen. When they got going in the second period, they played the best of any group since the opening win over Judge Memorial. The Vikes will host Cyprus, Wednesday, Dec. 22, with the next game after that, Jan. 7, when Mountain view and their 7'4" center, Carl Pollard, comes to PG. BRAD KITCHEN AND TOM BIRD controlled the boards in Viking win over Spanish Fork Friday.
